The summer is going to be in full swing this June at Genesee Country Village & Museum, with events for everyone from craft beer connoisseurs to kids ready for summer break.
The month starts off with History on Tap, an after-hours happy hour in the Historic Village on Friday, June 7, featuring drink samples and foods from over 20 local producers. Guests can enjoy live music, lawn games, and the chance to visit many buildings in the historic village from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pre-sale ticket purchasers save $5 off admission as well.
On Saturday, June 15, the sights, sounds, and smells of the Celtic Faire will fill the museum grounds, with music from the Gates Keystone Police Pipes & Drums and Rochester Scottish Pipes & Drums, plus performances by Irish dance troupes, and several vendors selling Celtic goods. The day will also feature the popular Highland games activities, with athletes from Roc City Hurling, Roc City Camogie, and the Buffalo Heavies showing some of the traditional sports of the region, and the day will be capped off by a Celtic rock concert by The American Rogues. The concert begins at 4:30 p.m., and is free with Celtic Faire admission. Those arriving at 4 p.m. or later and wishing to attend just the concert can purchase separate tickets at a reduced rate.
Father’s Day features free admission for dads on Sunday, June 16, when the museum will be full of hands-on activities for families, including games on the Village square and a double-header of men’s base ball, as well as a fishing excursion to the museum’s own Lake Surprise (registration and fee required).
A piece of local history comes to life June 22 and 23 with 1812 Weekend, featuring American and British troops from the only war fought locally in Western New York. This weekend will also allow guests to visit with the era’s premiere party hostess, Dolley Madison. Known for her heroism during the burning of Washington, Dolley was also renowned for her social and diplomatic skills, and is regarded as having set the standard for all First Ladies to come.
To celebrate the start of summer vacation, GCV&M will feature Kids Free Week, when youth ages 17 and under are admitted free every day from June 25 through 30. Each day will be filled with themed activities, outdoor games and scavenger hunts, hands-on activities and crafts at various village homes, and some canine fun at the John L. Wehle Gallery as part of the interactive “Working Like a Dog” exhibit. Kids Free Week is sponsored by the ESL Charitable Foundation.
The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the regular season. General admission is $18 adults, $15 seniors, $10 youth, and free for children three and under.
