OBITUARIES – WEEK OF AUGUST 25, 2013

AREA

•Merritt, Sandra “Sandy”, of Loveland, Colorado, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2013. Sandy was born to Florence and Wilson Zieres, of Rochester, on November 26, 1933. Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Donald Merritt; a sister, Betty Kowal; two daughters, Wanda Merritt Warren and Susan Merritt Toal; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Ronald Merritt. Sandy drove school bus for the Brockport School District, and Thompson Valley School District in Loveland, Colorado. She retired after many years of dedicated service.

•Stone, Peter Jon, of Williamson; died August 15, 2013, after a heart attack. Born in Rochester on November 8, 1938, to Gordon and Ruth Stone. He was a graduate of Spencerport High School. Jon is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter Shelly Stone (Rich Cavagnolo) and Sandy’s children Pamela Murphy, Richard Hack (Eleanor Hack), Marcia Hennig (James Hennig), Laurie Polle (Ed Polle); fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Donna Amoroso (Tom Amoroso) and JoAnne Stone and brother Douglas Stone (Sandy Stone).

Funeral Services were held August 20 at the Bible Baptist Church of Sodus. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Mercy Ships in his memory.

 

 

BROCKPORT

•Spink, Evelyn M. (Euler), On August 15, 2013 at age 99. Predeceased by husband, Martin Spink, son and daughter-in-law, LaVerne and Dorothy Miller. She will be sadly missed by loving granddaughter, Debbie Gravetter (Fred); grandsons, Duane and David Miller; great-grandchildren, Melissa Monachino (Niccolo), Megan Baker (Jimmy), Shannon and Erika Miller, Elisha and David Miller Jr., Justin Gravetter; niece, Isabel Lasser. Evelyn was active with Sweden Senior Center. She was employed at Rochester Products for 30 years where she was known as “Rosie the Riveter” for the jobs she did during World War II.

Funeral Services were held August 24 at the Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport. Contributions can be made to the Sweden Senior Center in her memory.

 

CHILI

•Grasser, Richard J., August 18, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Tish; beloved daughters, Lauren (Joe) LoVullo and Tara (Jason) Palvino; grandchildren, Nicholas, Jessica, Zachary, Olivia, Ryan and Jack; two sisters, Nancy (Hugh) McAulay and Kathy (Dave) Matuszak.

A Private Service was held. Contributions can be made to Hildebrandt Hospice in his memory.

 

•Reiniger, Eugene S., August 17, 2013 at age 60. He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Stella Reiniger, brother Charles Reiniger of Michigan and his sister Ann Wasgatt of Colorado. Gene is survived by his two sisters, Joanne Vetter of Ohio and Roxanne Aery of Amsterdam, New York; loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. He attended both Edison and East High Schools. Eugene worked at Frontier and was proud to be a “Gadget Man.”

HILTON

•DiNitto, Nicholas Raymond Jr., August 18, 2013 at age 61. Predeceased by his parents, Nicholas A. and Josephine Rose DiNitto. Survived by his loving wife Marcia L. DiNitto; daughter, Josephine Rose (Jason) Curts; son, Nicholas Raymond (Kimberly) DiNitto; grandchildren, Chloe and Jacob Curts; sister, Francis (Rod) Rivers; brother, Ralph (Sandy) DiNitto; several nieces, nephews and cousins, dear friends. Nicholas was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated August 24 at St. Leo’s Church, Hilton. Interment with Military Honors in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.

 

•Younker, Thomas S., of Port Charlotte, Florida formerly of Hilton, died August 14, 2013. Tom was born in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, grew up in Corning, and graduated from Syracuse University. Tom taught French in the Hilton School District for 33 years. During that time, he spear-headed foreign exchange programs and chaperoned hundreds of students in Europe. He volunteered as a class advisor, cheerleading coach and assistant JV football coach. He served as mayor of the Village of Hilton for eight years and as supervisor of the Town of Parma for 10 years. Tom is also well known for his “high class” tailgating at the Buffalo Bills football games. In recent years, he lived in Port Charlotte, Florida where he continued his love of gardening, cooking, and throwing big dinner parties. He became an award-winning breeder of canaries. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Doris Younker; survived by his partner Roger Fernandez; his brother Ben (Connie) Younker; his children Kimberly (Mark) Ashworth, Melissa Kordish (Jeremy Duntley), Stephanie Valenti and Thomas (Tracy) Younker; his grandchildren Laura (Eric) Sterling, Brett Crandell, Alexander Crandell, Mia Valenti, Jakks Valenti, Zachary Younker, Tyler Younker, Sara Duntley, Quinn Duntley, Anna Duntley, Ryan Ashworth, Mark Ashworth Jr. and Emily Ashworth; and his best friend Gail Younker.

A Memorial/Tailgating Party will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at Jennejahn Lodge on Younker Lane in Hilton.

 

HOLLEY

•Cone, Betty J. (Brizee), peacefully August 16, 2013. Predeceased by parents, Clifford and Ruth Brizee; and brother, Jerry Neuland. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles; daughters, Donna (Richard) Smith, Deborha (Cone) Bailey; grandchildren, Russell, Bridget, Shane, Jacob, Emily, J.R.; sisters, Shirley Rink, Bonnie (George) Vaisey; brothers, Clifford Brizee, John (Debbie) Neuland; aunt, Betty Gardner, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Services were held August 23 at New Comer Funeral Home, Greece.

 

SPENCERPORT

•Bechtold, Robert W. Sr. “Papa Bob”, August 18, 2013 at age 85. Bob is survived by his wife, Sara W. Bechtold; children, Bonnie K. (Bechtold) Pellegrino, Robert W. (Maureen C.) Bechtold, Jr., Sharon Willow Bechtold; grandchildren, Dina Pellegrino, Jay Pellegrino, Lindsay Bechtold, Marissa Bechtold, Nathan Becktold, Miles River Willow, Elijah Willow, Hailey Bechtold; six great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Direen; brother-in-law, Charles Smith; several nieces and nephews. Bob was a veteran of WWII, a Kodak retiree of 34 years, and American Legion Historian at Ferris Goodridge Post.

His Funeral Service was held August 22 at Walker Brothers Funeral Home, Inc., Spencerport. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ogden Center Road. Donations can be made to www.annaswish.org in his memory.

 

•Dodds, Mary E., August 16, 2013 at age 66. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert; parents, J. Frederick and Mary Coake; and brother, J. Frederick Coake. Survived by her daughters, Janis (Andrew) Suydam, Kristen Dodds, Caryn Consillo and Kimberly Snyder; grandchildren, Jacob Suydam, Devyn Brogan, Emma Suydam, Brandon Suydam and Peyton Terrigino; beloved in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was said August 20 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Spencerport. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

 

•Krause, Patricia A., August 13, 2013. Predeceased by her husband, Donald; and parents, Walter and Geraldine Hennessey. Survived by her three children, Todd (Cindy) Garino, Darin (Lisa) Garino, Karen (Mark) Siegfried; nine grandchildren.

Her Memorial Service was held August 20 at Open Door Baptist Church, Churchville.
