Brockport Ginther Elementary School teacher Emily Milazzo has been recognized with News 8’s Golden Apple Award.
Mrs. Milazzo, who works with kindergarten and first-grade students, was nominated for the award by one of her first-grade students, Hayden Wiepert. Hayden wrote a letter to Lia Lando at News 8, describing why Mrs. Milazzo deserves to be recognized.
“It’s amazing how much better the world is because of this teacher,” the letter begins. Hayden’s letter details the dedication Mrs. Milazzo has shown to her students throughout distance learning, finding new and exciting ways to connect and continue lesson plans.
On Thursday, Lia Lando surprised Mrs. Milazzo by contacting her through Zoom to present her with the Golden Apple award. Mrs. Milazzo became emotional when she learned Hayden had nominated her for the award, tearing up. Then, Lia told Mrs. Milazzo that there was another surprise waiting for her outside.
When she looked outside, Mrs. Milazzo found Hayden, along with her mother and grandmother, there with flowers and a balloon.
The Golden Apple presentation will be shown on News 8 during their 5:30 p.m. newscast on Tuesday, May 26, and their sunrise newscast on Wednesday, May 27.
