Parma-Hilton Historian seeks pandemic impact stories
With the current impact of the coronavirus on not only New York state towns and villages, but our nation and the entire world, it has been suggested that local historians collect journals, diaries, and other memories of how the epidemic has affected residents. Local historians are asking residents to send in their observations and reactions for the historical record.
In Parma-Hilton, the Historian’s office would welcome residents’ stories in any format. Residents are asked to share whatever they think might be important, interesting, or helpful to people in the future, as to what they have experienced and how they have coped during this challenging time in history.
The stories received will provide a valuable local historical reference of how the Parma-Hilton community dealt with this crisis. Very little was recorded in Parma during the Spanish Flu Epidemic in 1918 and 1919 when millions of people died worldwide. Such a reference would be most interesting today, to compare government policy, individual cases, and family economic impact along with stories of recovery and cure.
Those inclined to send in their stories may direct them to the Village of Hilton Historian’s Office, 59 Henry Street, Hilton, NY 14468, or email historian@hiltonny.org.
