Kids are free to explore GCV&M on Thursdays
Genesee Country Village & Museum is expanding their hours to be open to the public on Thursdays, in addition to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, beginning in August. As an added bonus, these August Thursdays will be Kids Free Days. On August 6, 13, 20, and 27, kids ages 12 and under receive free admission to GCV&M from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. GCV&M will be offering a wide array of activities in the Historic Village for kids to enjoy, including visits with animals on the farm, demonstrations from the potter and the tinsmith, and games on the Village Square. It’s the perfect time to bring the whole family out to enjoy the wide-open spaces the Museum affords.
The John L. Wehle Gallery will also be open during regular Museum hours as they premiere their new exhibit “Nature’s Chain: The Land and Our Place in It” and bring back “Victoria’s Closet: Fashions of the 1850s.” With five miles of trails and 175 acres of wildlife, the Nature Center will also be available for roaming during these Thursdays, where there will be plenty of space for visitors and their families to both social distance and explore.
With all that is happening on Thursdays, kids will need somewhere to eat. There are a variety of sandwiches, fresh salads, cookies, and beverages available for purchase at the Museum’s Depot Restaurant, and visitors can finish off their meal with ice cream as well. On the way out, stop at the Flint Hill Store to shop for traditional gifts, historic toys, fudge and goodies, and items made directly from the Historic Village. Kids Free Thursdays are sponsored by ESL Charitable Foundation.
In order to protect both staff and visitors, GCV&M asks that everyone practice social distancing. Anyone over the age of two is required to wear a mask when indoors or in high traffic outdoor spaces where social distancing cannot be observed. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the museum as well.
Beginning in August, admission to GCV&M is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students (ages 13-18), $12 for youth ages 3-12 (free on Thursdays in August), and GCV&M members and kids ages 2 and under are free. Pre-purchase is not required, as same-day tickets are available at the Admissions window.
