Flower City Arts Center provides free and discounted classes for essential workers
As a community of artists, the members and students of Flower City Arts Center experience firsthand the power of art to heal, reconstruct, energize, and inspire. Out of gratitude to local essential workers, Flower City Arts Center began raising money to not only offer as many free or discounted classes for essential workers to thank them for their service, but to also make available a variety of new outlets for them to express themselves through art. Using funds raised during the Annual Spring Scholarship Appeal, Flower City Arts Center now has over $6,000 to start making that happen.
From August 1, 2020, through March 31, 2021, or until fully exhausted, class scholarship assistance is available to all area essential workers who are not current members of Flower City Arts Center. Scholarships will be awarded on a sliding scale based on household income, once per seasonal quarter. Scholarships range from 10 percent (for household incomes over $95,000) up to full course cost (for household incomes below $30,000).
Essential workers who are members of Flower City Arts Center may apply for a one-year paid membership. In addition, Flower City Arts Center is inviting employers of essential workers to contact director@rochesterarts.org if they would like to work with Flower City Arts Center to provide their employees with an even lower group rate using these funds.

Essential workers are individuals who reported for work during and throughout the New York State lockdown period and include workers at: hospitals, nursing homes and other health care entities; fire stations; U.S. Post Offices; delivery companies; grocery and convenience stores; restaurants that remained open for carry-out or delivery; and the like.
Those who would like to help Flower City Arts Center continue its goal of providing outreach and programs for those affected by COVID-19 in the Rochester area may consider supporting the Arts Center’s annual Spring Scholarship Appeal. Donations can be made through their website at rochesterarts.org/donate.
