If you’re like me, you’ve had disagreements with family, friends, and coworkers over the last few years. Ever since Donald Trump entered our political discussions, these disagreements have devolved into full-scale arguments. Our relationships have been damaged by the vicious attacks on both sides. These critiques are becoming more and more personal, rather than becoming disagreements over public policy.
Donald Trump keeps making that worse because he has never sought to unite the country. Instead, he belittled opponents with childish nicknames, retweeted dangerous conspiracies, and lied about the seriousness of COVID-19. His name bears the historical shame of impeachment, and he thinks that Nazis and dictators may be very fine people. His politics are exhausting us, wearing us down, and driving us apart.
Joe Biden represents our best chance to respectfully re engage with each other. Biden worked alongside President Obama to fix the broken Bush economy, to hammer the final nails of Al Qaeda’s coffin, and to expand healthcare for nearly twenty million people, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Now, Biden is ready to retake this country from the fires of riots and the isolation of quarantine. Biden promised to Build Back Better with the integrity of an experienced leader, a green job-generating economy, and a more affordable healthcare system.
Joe Biden will syphon the poison out of our politics. He will remind us to disagree, rather than purposely pit us against each other. He will take masking seriously so that the coronavirus is brought under control. He will show kindness to all Americans, not as a sign of weakness, but as a recognition of each person’s humanity and each person’s role in our country’s success.
This country derives its power from the people who believe in it, and Joe Biden is the only candidate who understands that. He will make this country smarter and stronger than ever before.
