Betty Chase Smith
Greece – Betty was born on May 18, 1923 to Carlos and Josephine (Ewell) Chase in Rochester NY. She is survived by her three daughters, Lucinda (Robert) Ross of Baldwinsville NY, Rebecca (John) Nichols of Batavia NY and Barbara (Jeffrey) Stein of Dansville NY. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard G Smith of 67 years, her parents, her two brothers Donald Chase and Ernst Chase and her sister Helen (Kenneth) McGowan.
Betty graduated from SUNY Brockport with a teaching degree. She taught at Harley School and the Greece Central School District in primary grades.Her love of children and teaching provided her with a lifetime of fond memories. Betty and Richard lived in Rochester after they were first married and later in Greece, where they raised their three daughters and enjoyed their family life, which included many camping trips around New York and beyond.
As a young girl Betty enjoyed Girl Scouting and numerous other activities at the Brick Church, later the Downtown United Presbyterian Church. She met Richard at the Brick Church where he lived and worked at the institute desk, and they were married in the chapel in 1944. Betty continued to be very active in the church, serving in several capacities while enjoying the dear friendships she made.
Betty and Richard always remembered their many family, friends, relatives and neighbors in Greece who were very special to them. They also remembered those they came to know at Rochester Products where Richard worked for over 40 years. Betty lived her last years at The Friendly Home in Rochester.
Betty extends a sincere “Good-Bye”. Funeral arrangements will be made at the convenience of the family.
