Dr. Robert Whelpley retires from Oak Orchard Health

Dr. Whelpley’s sense of humor and dedication to his patients will be missed at the Hornell office at Oak Orchard Health. He retired on December 30, 2020. From the first day he started in January 2016, Dr. Whelpley has been a dedicated physician to patients of all ages. In his absence, his patients will be seen by Dr. Mao, Elaine Burritt, FNP/PA, and Kim Hoover, PA.

Oak Orchard’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Nancy Ciavarri describes him as “a steady support and presence for patients and other providers over the years. His motivation comes from true compassion for others. His love of learning and knowledge is apparent, and he has shared it with great humility.  I believe that his sense of humor and practical mindset are much of what helped Oak Orchard grow with the Hornell community, and I know that I speak for Oak Orchard Health when I express tremendous gratitude for his dedication to our organization and to the medical profession. Thank you Dr. Whelpley. You are one of a kind, and we will truly miss you. We wish you a happy and peaceful retirement.”

Dr. Whelpley chose to practice medicine in his hometown stating that, “any other place was not an option.” He grew up in the area and graduated valedictorian from Wellsville Central High School and attended local colleges and medical programs.
