Hickok Belt™ award winner for January 2014 chosen

Durant 1Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant has been selected as the Hickok Belt Award winner for the month of January 2014. Durant was selected for his outstanding performance throughout January, a month in which he led the NBA in scoring, by recording 20 points or more in each of the 16 games in which he played – resulting in an overall average of 35.9 points per game. He helped the Thunder to a 13-4 record for the month, and managed to reach a career high of 54 points in the Thunder’s 127-121 victory over the Golden State Warriors. All of this contributed to his selection as the Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for the 3rd consecutive time.

Other finalists for the month of January in order of how the NSSA voters ranked them included: Peyton Manning (football), Marshawn Lynch (football), Stan Wawrinka (tennis), Li Na (tennis), Carmelo Anthony (basketball), Zach Johnson (golf), John Tavares (hockey), Cory Schneider (hockey) and Jessica Korda (golf).

Durant’s selection as the Hickok Belt Award winner for January 2014 recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the first candidate eligible to receive the 2014 overall award.

Voting for the 2013 overall Hickok Belt Award winner is currently underway and will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit www.HickokBelt.com.
