Although my first year working for the state Assembly was unlike any other, I’m proud of the results I was able to deliver for our community. My goal has remained unwavering: to advocate for common-sense policies, represent our Monroe County values and protect our personal freedoms. To serve as a community-focused representative, it is important to be willing and able to work collaboratively and be willing to stand up and push back against policies that are bad for the people I serve.
Unfortunately, this year, some in Albany prioritized criminals above law-abiding citizens. As our county and state continue to see crime skyrocket, I was proud to support measures that sought to protect you and your loved ones, support public safety and make our neighborhoods safer. Additionally, this years’ state budget grew the government at an unsustainable rate, increasing spending to record levels, making living in New York more expensive with even new taxes and fees on working families.
While I fought against government irresponsibility and overreach, I was pleased to work across the aisle when sensible to deliver real results. As the Ranking Member of the Assembly Libraries Committee, I worked to secure more resources for libraries in our community, and across our state. More than ever, our libraries serve as community centers of education and innovation, and it’s imperative we equip them with the necessary resources to ensure all have access to the tools they need.
Additionally, we were able to ensure our schools received the critical funding they need to thrive, increasing the state investment in our local school districts. Our students, teachers and staff faced all the obstacles thrown at them during COVID-19, with ever-changing and confusing regulations from the state and adapting to the unknown of virtual learning. The increased funding provided will ensure that our schools have all the tools necessary to prepare our next generation with the knowledge and experience they need to thrive.
However, most of all, despite inconsistent messages coming from the state, I was proud to have my office doors open and continue to provide constituent services to those I represent in the towns of Greece, Ogden and Parma. Hundreds of members of our community have reached out to me directly over the past six months, and I have been proud to assist in whatever way I can. The most important role I have as our Assemblyman is to give a voice to the voiceless and fight for the issues and values that are truly important to those who call our community home.
