Eagles split with Geneseo
Andrea Schell went a combined 3-for-7 with one home run and four RBIs and Jamie Berger allowed just one run in six innings to help Brockport earn a Senior Day softball split with Geneseo.
In the opener, the visiting Knights scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, an error allowed leadoff batter Brianna Harris to reach and she scored on an RBI double by Schell. Later in the inning, Sarah Rosenbarker doubled off the wall in center to drive in the second run for the Golden Eagles.
They threatened to tie the game in the seventh when Erika Lazzaro led off with a double to the right center field gap. But, after Gabrielle Rivers moved her to third with a sacrifice bunt, she was stranded after a pair of fly outs.
Brockport wasted little time in taking an early lead in the nightcap. In the first inning Brianna Ferchen and Harris singled prior to an RBI double by Schell and a sacrifice fly by Rosenbarker for the 2-0 lead.
They made it 5-0 in the third as pinch hitter Amanda Yuhas singled to left to drive in Schell and Susanna Johnson stroked a two-RBI single to plate Paige Manachino and Yuhas.
After Geneseo broke up the shutout bid with a single run in the sixth, the Golden Eagles ended the game via mercy-rule with a four run bottom of the sixth with Rivers scoring on a wild pitch, Harris driving in a run with a single to right and Schell blasting a two-run homer to dead center in the 9-1 win.
Berger allowed six hits and one run while striking out five to earn the win in the second game. Brockport remained middle of the pack in the tight SUNYAC standings at 6-4.
Seniors playing their final regular season home contest were Rosenbarker, Johnson and Emily Dumas.
