Two C-C sports programs recognized with sportsmanship awards

Two of Churchville-Chili High School’s sports programs have been recognized this season for exceptional sportsmanship.

The Rochester-Monroe County Swimming and Diving Officials presented their Sportsmanship Award to the Churchville-Chili Saints boys swimming and diving team on February 11 during Sectionals at the Webster Aquatic Center. The award, which is voted on by all the officials, recognizes the efforts of the coaches, athletes, and parents who have gone above and beyond in promoting courtesy, respect, encouragement, fairness, good judgment, and team spirit in their swimming and diving programs.

Saints swimming and diving Head Coach Chelsea Whitney said, “This team truly embodies this award. They work hard, they push each other and cheer for each other regardless of ability level. Every small success is a whole team success, and you can feel that in the atmosphere on deck. They know everyone from every other school and even traded caps all season with people from all over the county. I feel we are also truly blessed to have the most supportive and encouraging parent group!”

The 2021-22 varsity boys swimming and diving team members include: Captain Logan Birtchet, Trevor Caldwell, Anthony Cerretto, Connor Clingerman, Jordan Cope, Rudolph Fahnbulleh, Moises Fernandez, Steven Fuller, Luke Herbert, Maytum Hutchinson, Ryan Johnson, Casey Larson, Billy Morgan, Sr. Captain Bryce Phillips, Gavin Place, Sr. Captain Mitchell Sauer, Paul Sesnie, Adam Strong, Kyler Thomas and Keegan Wooding, along with Head Coach Whitney, Assistant Coach Kelley Anzalone, and Diving Coach Ricky Krebs-Lehman.

The Wrestling Officials Association of Section V selected the Churchville-Chili wrestling program to receive the Earl Fuller/Frank Marotta Sportsmanship Award for 2021-22 for Section V Division 1 schools. The award is given for demonstrating good sportsmanship at all levels – Varsity, JV, Modified, coaches, and fans. It was presented to representatives of the program on February 12 during the NYS Qualifier at SUNY Brockport.

“What a tremendous honor for our program to receive,” said varsity wrestling Coach Justin Raines. “The Saints wrestling program takes pride in our conduct on and off the mat. For this to be seen and recognized, will just thrill all of those on the team and remind these young men that their conduct and sportsmanship is and should always be our highest priority.”

The award is named after Earl Fuller, former wrestling coach at RIT and one of the founders of the Section V Wrestling Officials Association and Frank Marotta, who coached at the former Madison High and continues to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Section V Wrestling Officials Association. Both men have always placed the highest priority on wrestlers’ conduct and coaching ethics.

The 2021-22 Saints boys varsity wrestling team members include: Michael Antonio, Clay Behlok, Johnathan Cullen, Jacob Delaney, Seth Goodman, Drew Hambley, Andrew Jeffers, Jonathan Jeffers, Tyler Jeffers, Derek Koch, Jeffrey Morgan, Evan Morse, Cael Raines, Coy Raines, Gael Sanchez, and Alexander Tomaszewski.
