RDGA announces its inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 2022

Inductees to be honored during ceremony on July 12

Following months of planning and weeks of deliberation, the Rochester District Golf Association (RDGA) has announced an inaugural class of eight inductees to its newly created RDGA Hall of Fame. The class includes Don Allen, Walter Hagen, John Kircher, Jim Scorse, Mike Sorce, Jerry Stahl, Jean Trainor, and Sam Urzetta.

The RDGA Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be formally inducted during a special ceremony to be hosted by the Country Club of Rochester (CCR) on Tuesday, July 12 – corresponding with the week of the annual RDGA District Championship John H. Ryan Jr. Memorial, also being hosted by CCR.

The criteria for RDGA Hall of Fame induction included:

•Contributions made by a candidate contributing to the enhancement of the sport of golf through playing, teaching, coaching, maintaining/managing, educating, writing or advocating for an extended period of time.

•Candidates must exemplify the spirit of the game of golf.

•Achievements of candidates are sustainable over time.

•Eligibility can also include candidates who have, by virtue of name recognition, brought honor, distinction, and/or have favorable contributions to golf in the Greater Rochester area.

As a result of the selection process – which continued, on and off, for nearly two years due to the COVID pandemic – the decision was made to accept a greater number of inductees for the first year of the ceremony, owing to the importance and special meaning of the inaugural class. Future induction classes may include five or six honorees.

Each inductee will receive a medallion inscribed with their name during the July 12 induction ceremony – and all inductees will be introduced by individuals that are well known to the local golfing community or who have a special connection to the inductee.

A limited number of tickets are available for the inaugural RDGA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony through a link on the RDGA.org website. The cost is $75 for the public, or $50 for players entered in the 2022 RDGA District Championship, and includes hors d’oeuvres and an open bar throughout the evening.
