The Historical Horizons lecture series returns to GCC

The Genesee Community College History Club’s Historical Horizons Lecture Series is back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The series will kick off September 21 with Dr. Chris Mackowski.

Professor of Communication and Jandoli School Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at St. Bonaventure University, Mackowski is also Editor-in Chief of the Emerging Civil War Blog. He is the author or editor of more than a dozen books. Mackowski resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The first lecture of the series is entitled “What if Jackson was at Gettysburg?” exploring the implications of the hypothetical scenario in which Confederate General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, instead of dying following the battle of Chancellorsville, survived and was present at the Battle of Gettysburg July 1 through 3, 1863. Mackowski’s narrative is just one such fascinating “What If” contained in the new book The Great “What Ifs” of the American Civil War: Historians Tackle the Conflict’s Most Intriguing Possibilities, published by Savas Beatie. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing at the event.
