American Sewing Guild celebrates National Sewing Month in September

The Rochester Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is celebrating National Sewing Month in September. The mission of the American Sewing Guild is to advance sewing as an art and life skill. The organization is dedicated to people who believe sewing is a rewarding and creative activity. The Rochester Chapter was organized in 1991 and currently has 128 members. New members are welcome, and membership is $50 per year.

Displays of many things created by ASG members are on display at the Seymour Library in Brockport, as well as libraries in Pittsford and Penfield.

The national ASG has asked that all the chapters work on a special ASK (Acts of Sewing Kindness) as a Community Service Initiative. The Rochester Chapter will be hosting “sew-ins” at Monroe County Libraries – at the Seymour Library on September 20 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and at the Greece Public Library on September 21 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Members will be working on baby items to be donated to MINO (Mothers in Need of Others), a local ministry that assists social service agencies and churches to provide emergency items for families in crisis. Visitors are welcome to stop in, help out, and learn more about the ASG.

The ASG Gates Neighborhood Group will be meeting at the Gates Community Building, Room #1, 1620 Buffalo Road, Gates, on Wednesday, September 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Meetings will also take place on October 19 and November 16 at the same meeting time and location. For information about the Gates Neighborhood Group, contact Sally McNeill at 247-5543.
