Spring college sports honors

•Genesee Community College’s Ashley Makowski (Kendall) was selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) women’s lacrosse Region III All-Region First Team. In her freshman season, Makowski led the Cougars in assists with 12 and was second on the team in goals (20) and total points (32). She was also selected to the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) All-Conference first team this spring.

•Sophomore infielder Josh Maier of GCC was named to the NJCAA Division II Region III All-Region team. Maier hit .323 in a team-high 96 at bats this spring. He totaled six extra-base hits, scored eight runs and drove in seven. In the field, he committed just one error and sported a .981 fielding percentage.

•Chili’s Pete DiLaura was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III All-Region team while competing for Genesee CC in men’s lacrosse. DiLaura had the sixth highest ground ball total in the country this year with 90, scored five goals, added five assists and led the team in takeaways with 60.

•College at Brockport junior Andrea Schell was named 2014 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Softball All-Star as well as First Team All-SUNYAC. Teammates Brianna Ferchen and Korey Kibling were also First Team choices while catcher Kelly Proper was named Second Team.

•College at Brockport’s Kelly Wall was one of two ECAC Rookies of the Year in women’s lacrosse and was named All-SUNYAC First Team and SUNYAC Rookie of the Year after her 47 goal and 16 assist campaign. Colleen Hathaway was also named First Team All-SUNYAC with Emily Zartman a Second Team pick.

•The Golden Eagles team of Cameron Shaughnessy, Dorian Hayden, Samuel Taft and Zachary Brown finished sixth in the NCAA 4x100m Relay to earn All-American honors. Brendon Ganschow (shot put) and Darius Favors (javelin) were Men’s First Team All-SUNYAC with Hayden (200m dash), Gary Messina (10,000m), Taft (400m hurdles) Second Team selections.

•Brockport’s Rachel Malone took eighth in the 10,000m Run to also earn All-American status. She along with Marcy Merritt (pole vault) and Courtney White (discus) were also named First Team All-SUNYAC with Samantha Turner (100m hurdles) and Jessica Wheeler (pole vault) Second Team.

•Brockport Golden Eagle seniors Colin King, Keenan Sullivan and Steve Brissette were named First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention All-SUNYAC in men’s lacrosse.

•College at Brockport baseball coach Justin Beach was named the SUNYAC Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year. Senior first baseman Dan Hurlimann (Hilton) and sophomore second baseman Wes Burghardt were First Team All-SUNYAC picks and senior right-hander Bradley Westling was Second Team.
