A new historic marker was recently installed at Crosby’s in Parma Center. It replaces one lost years ago that commemorated the first Methodist Episcopal Church west of the Genesee River. The building was constructed in 1830, but the church organized as early as 1804. In 1883, all the Parma Methodist Churches combined resources and built the Hilton United Methodist Church which is very active today.
The Parma Center two-story brick church was deconsecrated and became a blacksmith shop.
When automobiles took over, it became a gas station. The only picture the Parma Hilton Historical Society has of the old building is as an early gas station then owned by Bert Rowle and later owned by Norman “Toppy” Feil.
In the 1960s, the building was taken down and K&K convenience store occupied the site. Crosby’s convenience store owns the site today.
