Town of Bergen to celebrate 200th Anniversary

As the Bicentennial of the Town of Bergen approaches, the 200th Anniversary Committee is putting the final touches on the plans for the celebration. A ceremony will take place on April 13 at Mount Rest Cemetery commemorating the formation of the town in 1813; the program will include the American Legion Color Guard, musical numbers by members of the Byron-Bergen Band, solo by Sonia Catalino, other community groups, the dedication of a town tree and time capsule, speakers, and tolling of church bells. The program will begin at 1 p.m. Special accommodations are being made for octogenarians to attend the celebration. Call Fred Ely at 494-1574 to make arrangements for a ride to and from the event.

Commemorative t-shirts ($10) are on sale at the town and village offices during regular business hours. They are dark green with the Bergen Bicentennial logo in white.

Items are being collected at the town hall for the time capsule. Check the item list on the village and town websites for ideas.
