Hair donation benefits Wigs for Kids
After several years of growing her hair, Ferris Goodridge Legion Post #330 member Jane Decker decided in September to cut her hair as a fundraiser for Wigs for Kids. She agreed to donate one inch of hair for every $100 raised, up to 18 inches. When enough funds were collected, she made an appointment to have her hair cut on November 30, allowing time for additional donations.
The purpose of this fundraiser was to raise awareness of the cost to make custom human hair wigs ($1,800 to $2,800) using up to 30 ponytails. Wigs for Kids never charges the family in need. Donated funds help cover the expense of creating wigs and providing care products, services and support.
Through her efforts, Jane provided four ponytails and over $2,800 to Wigs for Kids. Eighteen inches of her hair was cut and enough money was raised to make a wig for a child going through some tough times, with hopes of making a small difference in that child’s life.
Being the season of giving, many Legion Family members and others were very generous in doing just that. Thanks to all of those who helped out with this special project.
