One-mile Family Walk added to Staff Sgt. Nick Reid 5K Race
The 8th annual Sweden Farmers Museum Harvest Festival 5K Race is dedicated to Staff Sgt Nick Reid who died December 12, 2012 from injuries sustained in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan. Staff Sgt Reid was a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School and was serving in his second deployment to Afghanistan as a member of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion.
The race begins at 9 a.m. and winds along a scenic and challenging course along the Niagara Escarpment.
In order to allow greater participation in Sgt Reid’s memory, race organizers have added a one-mile Family Walk to the event. The Family Walk will stay within the confines of Lakeview Cemetery to provide a safe course for walkers of all ages. Those wishing to receive a race t-shirt will pay the $25 race entry fee. All others may participate in the Family Walk for free. T-shirts are limited to the first 150 participants of the race/walk.
Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in several categories. Proceeds from the race and festival will be used to install a gazebo in Staff Sgt Reid’s memory. For more information and a registration form, visit www.swedenfarmersmuseum.org or call 637-7588.
