Spencerport resident receives Volunteer of the Year Award

Spencerport resident Donna Fahey received the 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Braille Group of Buffalo. Donna was certified by the U.S. Library of Congress as a Braille Transcriber in 2003, and in the following years has helped transcribe and provide Braille materials to visually impaired readers of all ages. She was honored for her “generous gift of time and service so that Braille readers may have the joy of reading and learning.” Donna is a very productive member of the all-volunteer Lions Braille Service in Spencerport. For over 40 years, this organization has transcribed books for the blind and visually impaired, producing well over half a million published Braille pages since their beginning.
