Brockport service clubs raise over $7K for Salvation Army

Brockport Rotary president John Egan accepts a thank you certificate from local Salvation Army coordinator Cindy Ingraham and Major R. Douglas Hart, Area Coordinator and Executive Director, The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester.

Because the annual joint service club/Salvation Army banquet was cancelled due to the recent blizzard, Ingraham and Hart went to the individual clubs to thank them for their efforts during the annual holiday bell ringing fundraising.

Ingraham, who last year took over the coordinator position from Dr. Dan Perry, delivered the results of the annual interclub competition. Lions won in a landslide followed by Kiwanis and Rotary. She noted that the 2014 Saturday bell ringing dates are November 29 (Kiwanis), December 6 (Lions) and December 13 (Rotary) with all clubs working on December 20.

A total of $7,052 was raised by the service clubs on the four Saturdays before Christmas. A grand total, including all persons ringing the bell during those four weeks, was $18,081.

Ninety percent of the monies raised stay in the Brockport area while the Salvation Army generally also contributes each year by sheltering some adults and youth from the Brockport area, giving scholarships to summer camp and in many other ways.

In Brockport, the monies are generally spent on requests for food, clothing, prescriptions, school supplies, Christmas toys and utilities. Requests can be made for help to Ingraham at 585-752-9313.
