50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner set by Western Monroe Historical Society
“A Golden History – A Shining Future” is the theme for the 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner marking the Golden Anniversary of the Western Monroe Historical Society in Brockport. The event takes place on Saturday, October 17, at Cooper Hall on The College at Brockport campus. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. The dinner and program start at 7 p.m. Reservations are due by October 7.
A fire severely damaged the historic Morgan-Manning House at 151 Main Street in 1964. Volunteers who restored the home in 1965 organized as the Western Monroe Historical Society that year.
Since then, the Society has preserved the 1854 structure as Brockport’s landmark jewel and serving as a museum with archives for historical research. “That is our golden history,” said Alicia Fink, past president of the Society and dinner chairperson. “Representing the shining future, we have chosen a Victorian-style lantern as our Celebration emblem. It symbolizes the light from the Morgan-Manning House belvedere (commonly called a “cupola” on the roof), a beacon shining on better days ahead for the Society.”
Master of Ceremonies for the program will be Gary Skoog with welcoming remarks, official proclamations, and introduction of speakers.
The served dinner includes salad, dual entrée of beef filet and chicken, potato and seasonal vegetable, plus dessert buffet. The dinner is $35 per person, payable to Western Monroe Historical Society, 151 Main Street, Brockport, NY 14420. Paid reservations for individuals or groups are due by October 7.
