March Mayhem benefit game raises $3,365 for teacher’s family
The 18th annual March Mayhem benefit basketball game between the Churchville-Chili LEO Club and the Churchville Lions Club was a rousing success. The event, held Sunday, March 6, raised $3,365 for the family of Kailee Kwiecien whose Mom, Catherine, teaches at the Churchville-Chili Middle School.
Kailee has been battling a rare form of childhood cancer and has had to undergo extensive chemotherapy treatments throughout her young life. Dan Kwiecien, a 911 Dispatcher and volunteer fireman, thanked the school district and the community for the outpouring of support for his family.
The LEO Club, a community service group, had its members bring in donations from sponsor pledges. Teachers and coaches from the school donated raffle baskets and joined in the fun game. The boys’ and girls’ basketball programs treated the fans to some exciting fast-paced action while the Lions team was bolstered by LEO parents and Churchville Fire Department members in an attempt to keep up with the LEO Club students.
In the end, the only number that mattered was the amount raised. Organizers also wish to thank the readers of the Suburban News who sent in donations for the family.
