Donations sought for those displaced by Brockport fire

The 700 building of Viking Apartments and Townhouses in Brockport was destroyed by fire on the morning of October 14. Multiple agencies responded to the blaze, which displaced 41 residents sending two to the hospital. Several residents reported that they didn’t hear any alarms. Many were woken by police officers who assisted with the evacuation. The cause of the fire and the alarm situation is under investigation. The twelve units most heavily damaged were demolished later that afternoon. The community immediately pulled together to help those who were displaced. Grinds 122 Cafe offered Viking residents a free meal Wednesday morning and is collecting donations. Donations of clothing, hygiene products, food, household items, toys, and more are also being collected at 58 Main BBQ & Brew, Reliant Bank, Brockport First Baptist Church, and Howard Hanna Brockport Office (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
