Petra Place to host annual Tea at the Beach

What has become an annual rite of spring, the Petra Place Counseling Center Tea at the Beach will take center stage on Sunday, April 24 at the Robach Community Center at Ontario Beach Park. Set to take place from 1:30 to 5 p.m., the event will feature a high tea menu including freshly brewed teas and finger foods.

During the afternoon event, guests will get to listen to a host of spirit-filled guest speakers who will share their personal stories about journeying towards improved mental health.  A number of young dancers will provide entertainment and artisans will be on hand to show off their wares.  Artists will include those displaying and selling pottery, jewelry, handmade paper, bee keepers’ honey and oil, handmade pasta, local wine and paintings. In addition, several raffles will round out the day’s event.

A special highlight this year will be a spring fashion show featuring clothing and accessories from Chico’s at the Mall at Greece Ridge, modeled by local models.

This year’s tea, the organization’s ninth annual, is being planned by the many volunteers who give of their time to help the Petra Place cause, as well as interns from Roberts Wesleyan College who spend time at the counseling center as part of their college program.

Located at 888 Long Pond Road in Greece, Petra Place is a 503(c) non-profit agency, which offers mental health services on a sliding scale for the uninsured, as well as provides community outreach as needs are identified. The center relies heavily on donations and support from the community to provide these services. A new program at Petra Place, Victory Road Association, offers local residents a continuum of care that focuses on total well-being.

According to Stacey Reed-MacGregor, LCSW, director of Petra Place, “Our goal is to ensure that the abused child or the family at risk of becoming broken will not be denied the opportunity to receive loving counseling and spiritual support. When the community supports love and healing, we believe miracles can happen.”

The director added, “We are seeing more and more people coming through the doors at Petra Place.  Proceeds from the tea will help us to continue to keep the doors open and work towards our dream in the making of expanding our walls someday to provide expanded community outreach programming and serve more people in need of these critical services.”

Donation for the tea is set at $25. To make a reservation, call Petra Place at 730-7777.
