Celebrate Mother’s Day and support new moms in need

Having a baby is a joyous event in the life of a family. Sometimes, however, a new mom lacks the financial means to purchase clothing and other much-needed items to keep her newborn comfortable and warm.

Again this year, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Brockport celebrated Mother’s Day by collecting items for baby layettes to help these special moms in welcoming their babies.

“Delivering layettes to families is always heartwarming. Without exception the gifts are received with smiles, and sometimes with tears of joy,” says Nicole DeRose, St. Luke’s member who oversees the infant program.

Twice a year – Mother’s Day and continuing throughout the month of May, and again at Christmas time – St. Luke’s reaches out to the community for assistance in restocking the nursery shelves with baby items in sizes newborn and 0-3 months.

Items needed for this year’s campaign include: white T-shirts and onesies, gowns and sleepers, receiving blankets, baby bath towels and washcloths, small bibs, diapers for newborn or size one, and baby wipes and diaper cream. Gift cards to stores that sell diapers and/or baby clothes are welcome. Body lotion for new moms is also appreciated.

To help new moms and their infants throughout the year, drop off new items at St. Luke’s, 14 Main Street, Brockport between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Thursday. The Mother’s Day Campaign continues through the end of May.
