St. Luke’s temporarily changes date for Harvest Kitchen

Harvest Kitchen at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Brockport will be held Sunday, May 22 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the church’s Parish Hall. This is a temporary date change from its regular second-Sunday-of-the-month schedule.

The date change is in celebration of the Sixth Annual New York State Sacred Sites Open House, May 21 and 22, which lends itself to welcoming the community to St. Luke’s to enjoy a shared meal and view the Parish’s stained glass windows and historic architecture. Harvest Kitchen will return to its regular second-Sunday-of-the-month schedule beginning June 12.

Harvest Kitchen is in its seventh year, welcoming and serving guests from the Brockport area in order to provide the opportunity for anyone to join in a meal of good food and great company.

To celebrate the founding of Harvest Kitchen, the May menu will feature homemade soup and bread baked by Chet Fery, the local “bread man.” Assorted desserts will also be available.

Harvest Kitchen relies on donations from guests, St. Luke’s Parish and members of the community. Volunteers help make Harvest Kitchen a reality; greeting guests, preparing and serving meals and helping to create a welcoming environment in which to share time with friends and family. Volunteers receive orientations on all aspects of food service, including welcoming, service and the church’s food safety certifications, ensuring every guest has a satisfying experience.

Volunteers include members of St. Luke’s, the Boy Scouts, Circle K, Strong West Radiology, State Farm Insurance, Jimmy Zs, Kiwanis, The Church of Latter Day Saints, Girl Scouts, LAUNCH program, Brockport Central Schools sports teams and The College at Brockport.

Saint Luke’s Harvest Kitchen started in 2009 as a temporary place for “sharing and caring” during the season of Advent. However, due to its great success, Harvest Kitchen became a once-a-month staple in the Brockport community.
