2017 Rochester Heart Walk & 5K Run

Gates senior runner Bruce Rychwalski crossing the Finish Line in the 2017 Rochester Heart 5k Run at Frontier Field. Rychwalski, 67, was the Captain of The Bravehearts Team which raised $1,350 for the American Heart Association. Five of the ten runners on his team won medals in their age group in the 5K race: Pam Nudd, Christine Klein, David Kennedy, Tom Dutton and the Captain himself, Bruce Rychwalski. It was Rychwalski’s 236th 5K Run since experiencing a life-threatening Ventricular Tachycardia, being shocked with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), being diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and having surgery for an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in April of 2011. His goal is to run in 300 5K races by age 70.
