Fall events planned at the Spencerport Canal Museum
The cooler weather is settling in but with three weeks to go of the Erie Canal season, the Spencerport Canal Museum has more events scheduled.
The museum is reviving its Pumpkin People Village event on Saturday, October 5. Families or groups are invited to come to the museum anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to draw the face on a supplied pumpkin and dress the pumpkin person. Places are limited, so call Museum Director Simon Devenish at 352-0942 or email info@spencerportmuseum.org to reserve a pumpkin. Those wishing to participate but unable to attend on October 5, should call or email for information.
The fifth annual Spirits of Spencerport Ghost Walk, run by the Ogden Historical Society’s Ghost Walk Committee, returns to the village October 18 and 19. The Ghost Walk begins and ends at the museum. Tickets are $5 each and can be obtained online at https://ogdenhistoricalsociety.org/ghost-walk. Reservations are recommended as there are a limited number of tickets available. For information, call Joel Humphrey at 503-2021.
For lovers of candy and all things Halloween, the Annual Town Trick or Treat event, presented by the Town of Ogden, is happening again on Saturday, October 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the village of Spencerport. A map of the participating businesses can be obtained at the museum on the day of the event.
The museum’s Ogden Photo Contest had a successful year in 2019 thanks to the participants and judges. Winners from the competition were:
•Adult – First Place: Fields of Gold – July by Anne Peck, Second Place: Splash in the Park by Kathy Pricola;
•High School – First Place: A Cozy Corner by Ali Snarr, Second Place: Symmetry by Riley Fiege;
•Middle School – Just a Yorkie in a Tree by Gabriel Ouimet, Second Place: Beautiful View by Erick Ouimet;
•Elementary School – First Place: Touch the Clouds by Maria Holley, Second Place: Sisters on the Erie Canal by Maria and Nora Jane Holley.
Each year, more participants are submitting more photos. The museum looks forward to seeing your entries next year. Keep an eye out in July 2020 for contest information.
More information about these events is available on the Spencerport Canal Museum’s Facebook Page and www.spencerportmuseum.org. Because of the museum’s expanded role in the community, additional volunteers are always needed to help with activities.
