Brockport College-Community Orchestra to play concert featuring Brockport Concert Band

The Brockport College-Community Orchestra, housed in the Department of Theatre and Music Studies at The College at Brockport, will be giving a concert on Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seymour College Union Ballroom, Residence Drive, on the Brockport campus. Tickets, which cost $5, will be available at the door.

The ensemble, which includes students and their music-loving neighbors from the Village of Brockport, is tackling “more and more difficult” works this year, according to music director and faculty member Scott Horsington. This fall, the Orchestra will be playing Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Themes from Scheherazade,” Dvoák’s “Slavonic Dance No. 8,” Gustav Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite,” and Ernest Bloch’s “Allegro Energico.”

Recently, Horsington decided to use some of his orchestra musicians in the creation of the Brockport Concert Band. The Band returns on November 21, when they will be playing works by Vaughn Williams, Charles Carter, Frank Ticheli, Steven Bryant, and Claude Smith.

The Orchestra and Band are just two aspects of the performance classes offered by the department. The Winter Ensembles Concert will be presented on Wednesday, December 4, in the Tower Fine Arts Center, Room 120.

Those interested in sharing their musical talents with these, or any other of the department’s ensembles, may contact Horsington at shorsing@brockport.edu, or at 395-2691.
