On National Walking Day, April 2, the American Heart Association named Tammy Miller of Spencerport as the Lifestyle Change Award recipient in Rochester.

The Lifestyle Change Award, sponsored by CooperVision, will be presented to Tammy at the annual Heart Walk on April 12.
Tammy was nominated by her trainer. Having been diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2007, it took her some time to come to the realization that she needed to make some serious adjustments to her health if she wanted her daughter to have a mother. She started working with a trainer in 2012. She changed her diet, practiced clean eating, and took Zumba and Cross-Fit classes. At her checkup in January, her doctor took her off the daily insulin shots. She overcame disease and is committed to maintaining her health.

“I wasn’t sure I would be able to stick with it,” says Tammy. “But here I am committed to working out six days a week and staying off medication.”

“We are pleased to sponsor the Lifestyle Change Award and proud to recognize Tammy Miller’s efforts to change the course she was on,” states Lisa Fawcett, Vice President of Global Strategy and Life Cycle Management at CooperVision. “Simple lifestyle choices, including a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and knowing your numbers are among the best weapons to fight cardiovascular disease.”

Nominations were received and volunteer judges reviewed applications to determine the award-winner for the individual who made significant strides to become healthier. The Lifestyle Change Award recipient is chosen to inspire others to improve their health.
