Sonia Harney, a 16-year-old junior at Hilton High School, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss New York Teen Pageant to be held on August 19 and 20, 2020 in Rochester. The pageant is held for girls ages four through 18 in five different age divisions.
The National American Miss Pageant System is the largest in the nation. The focus of this organization is to create future leaders and to equip them with real-world skills to make their dreams a reality. The program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “All-American spirit of fun for family and friends.” Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence and learning new skills, such as good attitudes about competition, as well as setting and achieving personal goals.
Contestants will compete in four overall categories including Formal Wear Modeling, Personal Introduction, Interview, and Community Service Project. National American Miss also offers optional contests such as the Top Model SearchSM, Talent, Actress, and more. Each year, the pageant awards thousands in cash and prizes to recognize and assist in the development of young ladies nationwide. All activities are age-appropriate and family-oriented.
The newly crowned Miss New York Teen will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland® in California. She will also tour Hollywood. She has the chance to represent the state of New York for the entire year.
Sonia’s activities include her roles as a Mock Trial attorney, a Model United Nations delegate, a Sources of Strength peer leader, and a member of the National Honor Society within her school. She also enjoys modeling for the Mary Therese Friel, LLC professional modeling agency, and volunteering in community service projects through the non-profit organization Hilton Cares.
