The Brockport Kiwanis Club’s annual “Read Around the World” event celebrates the joy of reading with youth in the Brockport area.
In conjunction with the Seymour Library and the Brockport Central School District, an annual bookmark contest is held for district youth in kindergarten through fifth grade. The creative bookmark designs are judged by a panel of local leaders. All youth participants in the event are given books of their own, and local leaders conduct reading sessions at the library for the students and their families.
The pandemic significantly impacted this year’s event, and the Kiwanis Club was unable to hold the live event at the Seymour Library. However, the bookmark prizes were awarded, with the following students chosen as winners and runners-up for 2020: Grades K-1 – Logan Leatham (winner) and Claire Zimmer (runner-up); Grades 2-3 – Caleb Wong (winner) and Gracie Williams (runner-up); Grade 4-5 – Miranda Green (winner) and Caleb Pellegrino (runner-up).
