Over 100 families assisted in Cartons for Christmas Outreach

Through Cartons For Christmas, our community assisted 117 local families (480 people) by providing 7,050 items of food, gift cards and toys for young children this year (2014). This is only possible through the efforts of many.  We wish to thank:

•Our sponsors, the Ecumenical Council of Churches: St. John the Evangelist, First Congregational Church, United Methodist Church, Parma Baptist Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Ogden Baptist Church, Ogden Presbyterian Church and Spencerport Wesleyan Church.

•Our supporters – Nothnagle Realtors, Spencerport Federal Credit Union and Fowlers Canaltown Wine & Spirits for being early drop-off locations; Spencerport Tops Market for donating gift cards, baked goods, lending shopping carts and discounting food; Colby Homestead Farms for providing potatoes; Grant Wolfe, Samaritan Harvest and Krehers Farm Fresh Eggs for the eggs and Spencerport Schools for the food drives.

•Our financial backers – St. John the Evangelist Church, J. William Jewelers, Kiwanis Club of Spencerport, The Feltner Group,  Barton’s Parkside Hots, First Congregational Church, Hi-Qual Heating and Cooling, Inc., Spencerport Lions Club, Barefoot Management, Inc., Spencerport Federal Credit Union, Ferris Goodridge Unit No. 330, Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce, Village Square Management, Spencerport Firemen’s Benevolent Association Exempts, Spencerport Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Krony’s Pizza and the many individuals who donate so generously.

•Our new Toy Coordinator, Donna Granger, who invited our families to request specific toys or gift items to make kids happier and shopping easier, our Toy Tree sponsors, Cathy Fowler and Ginny Swarthout for their generosity and enthusiasm. Much thanks to all who selected the angels from the Toy Tree and bought and wrapped gifts along with Spencerport High School Student Government, Spencerport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Ginny Mosher, Elaine Kovaleski and the Church Ladies from St John’s.  Donna made sure all 211 children under age 16 received a toy or gift.

•Our volunteers
Ted Rauber and Jim Grassi and their team for ‘managing the floor’ by organizing hundreds of boxes and getting them into the correct vehicles, with assistance from B.S. Troop 165 led by Bob McGreevy.

Jim and Joann Grassi for inventing the sorting machine. Never had so much food been sorted so quickly with minimal movement by sorters.

Our transporters of toys, food, boxes and shopping carts Don Mosher, Barb Hull, Rod and Helen Grigg, Jim and Joann Grassi, Alicia and Ted Saladyga,  Paul and Janet Weitz, Greg Dorgan and Mike Vickery.

Our shoppers – God’s Girls from Spencerport Bible Church led by Sandy Boe and G.S. Troop 164 led by Beth Nash.

Ginny Mosher, our Meat Lady and scribe; Rod and Helen Grigg, our food count auditors; Lynn Phillips for collecting and storing boxes; Chad Colby for meat distribution; all the individuals who come to check expiration dates, sort, count and pack food as well as those members of Munn School Staff, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7707, Spencerport Rotary Club, Trinity Lutheran Youth Group, Spencerport High School Service Club.

The 31 drivers who get the food delivered which include Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department Explorers, Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance.

All who participate anonymously by donating turkeys and food.

A special thanks to Diane Hanley, who makes St. John’s gym look like we were never there.

As you see, none of this would be possible without the tremendous participation of the Spencerport community.

With our sincere thanks,
Maureen and Glenn Granger, Organizers
