Ending Hunger One Step at a Time

Community members will come together on Sunday, May 3, for the Greece CROP Hunger Walk to help neighbors facing hunger around the block and around the world. The event supports the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities worldwide through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement, and disaster.
Registration begins at 1 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Avenue. There will be free t-shirts, pizza, snacks, and drinks available. Participants will assemble for a group picture before the walk starts at 1:30 pm. Three walk routes are available: 2.5 miles, a half mile, or an indoor gym.
Whether you join this movement by donating or walking to raise awareness and funds, you will be providing life-saving support, such as emergency food and supplies, along with the seeds, tools, and programs that will help families feed themselves now and into the future. The walk is held rain or shine because those who must walk daily for food and water must do so regardless of weather conditions.
Twenty-five percent of the funds raised during the walk will remain local, benefitting the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf. Last year, 92 people participated, raising a record $14,039. Organizers hope to surpass that total this year to meet the growing need and have set a $15,000 goal.
