Cops and Bobbers Coming to Ogden: First Annual Community Fishing Event

Residents are invited to grab their fishing rods and head to the canal this spring for the first annual Cops and Bobbers Fishing Derby, taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Sponsored by the Town of Ogden, the Ogden Police Department, the Rotary Club of Spencerport, Aire Serv of Rochester, and Runnings, this new event brings local families and police officers together for a morning of outdoor fun and community connection.

“Last year, when Rotarians Tracey and Rick D’Ambrosia from Aire Serv Rochester brought the idea of Cops and Bobbers to Spencerport Rotary, the club absolutely loved the idea. It’s been great to partner with the town, the museum, and Runnings to make this happen for local kids. Looking forward to a very fun day!” said Colleen Farley, Secretary, Spencerport Rotary Club.

“The Ogden Police Department is proud to participate in this first-ever event and to help create lasting connections with the youth in our community,” said Ogden Police Chief Travis Gray. “Cops and Bobbers will bring officers and community members together in a fun, meaningful way, building relationships one cast at a time.”

Open to young anglers ages 16 and under, the event welcomes participants of all experience levels, from first-time fishers to seasoned pros. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and no fishing license is required for those age 15 and under. A limited number of fishing rods and bait will be available while supplies last. Online registration is required at www.ogdenparksandrec.com. Those who register early will receive a free event bobber.

In addition to a great day on the water, anglers will have the chance to earn recognition for their catches. Awards will be presented by age group for both the heaviest and longest fish, celebrating some of the day’s most impressive catches.

The event will begin at the Spencerport Depot and Canal Museum, with check-in starting at 9:30 a.m. Participants can pick up event materials before heading out to fish along the Erie Canal.

“I know I speak for our team at Town Hall and all the community partners who helped coordinate this when I say we’re incredibly excited, and we hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a memorable, fun-filled day,” said Ogden Town Supervisor Mike Zale.
