Brockport FD Improves Fitness Facility

Thanks to Grant Funding from DHSES
The Brockport Fire District was awarded a Recruitment & Retention Grant of approximately $20,000 through the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES). The grant allowed the fire district to purchase new fitness equipment and improve its weight room to benefit its volunteer firefighters.
Firefighting is one of the most physically demanding volunteer professions. From carrying heavy equipment and climbing stairs to advancing hose lines and rescuing victims, firefighters rely on strength, endurance, and overall fitness every time they respond to an emergency.
A dedicated fitness facility helps firefighters:
- Build the strength needed for emergency operations.
- Improve cardiovascular endurance for long-duration incidents.
- Reduce the risk of injuries during training and emergency responses.
- Stay physically prepared to serve the community safely and effectively.
This investment isn’t just about new equipment—it’s about ensuring firefighters are ready to answer the call when the community needs them most. It also supports recruitment and retention by investing in the health and wellness of the volunteers.
