Orleans County to Host 9/11 Remembrance Service

Orleans County will host a remembrance service on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend on Friday, September 11, at 6 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial at the Orleans County Courthouse Square, 1 South Main Street, Albion.

The event will include county EMS personnel, local law enforcement agencies, volunteer fire companies, and local veterans’ organizations. The ceremony will include remarks from Legislature Chairman Lynne Johnson; a memorial address from Senior Coroner Scott Schmidt, who spent an extended period of time at Ground Zero as part of the Federal Mortuary Response and Recovery team; and a reading of the timeline of events by Orleans County OEM Director Justin Niederhofer.

Rev. David Fish, who also spent time at Ground Zero, will offer the opening prayer. Local musician Doug Egling will provide a musical tribute. The combined American Legion and VFW Posts will have an honor guard and provide a military rifle salute along with the playing of TAPS.
