New Greece Performing Arts Society Board President

The Greece Performing Arts Society (GPAS) Board announced that Jonathan Allentoff is their new Board President.

Allentoff is already well-known to GPAS as the Conductor of the Community Orchestra, a member of the GPAS Symphony and an active behind-the-scenes advocate in the past three years for GPAS’s Next Chapter.

Eric Vaughn Johnson, the now former GPAS President, will continue to assist Jonathan’s transition through the end of the year. Jonathan steps into his new position as GPAS Board President effective immediately.

Johnson says he is “grateful” for his past three years serving as GPAS Board President and will now be focusing his full attention as Executive Director of OFC Creations Theatre Company. In addition, Johnson said that he looks forward to attending GPAS concerts and events, especially the Summer Soiree, an annual fundraising event that he created.

Jonathan Allentoff is a nationally acclaimed conductor, composer, performer, clinician, and educator. He holds a Master of Arts degree specializing in Music, Interdisciplinary Arts, Education, and Technology with Honors from Stony Brook University’s School of Professional Development, and he received the Dr. Deborah C. Hecht Award for his MA thesis, “The Positive Cultural Impact of Community Orchestras.”

Actively involved in the Greater Rochester community music scene, Jonathan holds positions as founding music director of the Brockport Symphony and Temple Beth El Orchestras, music director of the GPAS Greece Community Orchestra, and associate conductor and principal arranger for the Brighton Symphony Orchestra.

Jonathan was recently commissioned to write custom arrangements for the Pittsburgh, Knoxville, Muncie, Salina, and Vermont Symphony Orchestras and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. He was also invited to present a multimedia workshop on the Great American Songbook at the 2019 APME National Conference at New York University. In August 2019, he appeared as a conducting clinician and principal viola for the NYSSMA/NYASTA Directors’ Orchestra and was invited to perform as viola soloist with the NYACDA Honor Choir at the NYSSMA/NYASTA Summer Conference in Albany.

Jonathan’s works and licensed arrangements have been performed by ensembles across the globe, and he manages his own ASCAP music publishing business, Allentoff Music, www.allentoffmusic. He is an active member of APME, ASCAP, ASMAC, ASTA, CODA, NAFME, and NYSSMA.

The Greece Performing Arts Society was established in 1969. Since that time the organization has grown and flourished under the leadership of board presidents and board members, performing group liaisons and committee members who volunteered their time and talents and leadership skills at monthly board meetings, fundraisers, events and concerts within our community.
