Gymnasts bring home Nickel City banners

Bright Raven Level 6 winning team: Ariana Johnston (Clarkson), Keilei Latragna (Hilton), Hannah Cubiotti (Spencerport), Gabrielle Costner (Gates), Maeve O’Brien (Rochester), Indya Richards (Gates), Allison Corno (Gates), Abby Wilkins (Pittsford), Megan Welch (Caledonia), Emma Arnold (Avon), Hannah Krautwurst (Rochester).Nearly 900 gymnasts represented 25 gymnastics clubs in the Women’s 2013 Nickel City Classic held in West Seneca February 8-10 where Bright Raven Gymnastics of Gates earned three first, two second and a third place team banner with several team members winning top individual honors.

The Bright Raven Level 7 team took first place with 12-year-old Savannah Thesing of Chili capturing first place all around (36.875) and first place in two events: uneven parallel bars and balance beam. Alexis LaBrutto of Spencerport, also age 12, won first place in floor exercise and second place all around (36.675). In the 14-year-old Level 7 competition, Molly McKenna of Chili was first all around (35.55) and teammate Brooke Adam of Greece took first place on both balance beam and floor exercise.

The Level 6 team also earned first place with Gabrielle Costner of Gates winning uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all around (37.20) in the 13-year-old age division. In the 11-year-old division, Indya Richards of Gates was first on vault, floor exercise and all around (36.60). In the 12 year old age group, Keilei Latragna of Hilton finished second all around (37.175). In the 14-year-old age division, Hannah Krautwurst of Rochester took first place on vault.

The Level 5 team earned second place with 11-year-old Jadasia Lee of Gates taking first place all around (38.10) and also winning vault, bars and beam. Emma Taylor of Spencerport earned second place all around in the 7-8 age division (36.975).

In the Level 4 competition for ages 7-8, Bria Danesi of Greece was first on both vault and floor and finished second all around (36.15). In the 9-year-old division, Ashlyn Neathawk of Chili was first on balance beam and second all around (37.40). In the 10-year-old age group, Morgan Romeis of Chili was first on balance beam and all around (37.675). Madison Mass of Churchville was first on bars, floor and second all around (37.625). Mary Heyden of Hamlin was first on balance beam and second all around (37.275) in the 12 and over age group. Bailey Schirano of Spencerport took first place on the uneven bars. As a team, the Bright Raven Level 4’s finished first.

The Level 8 team finished in third place with Danielle Adam of Greece winning floor exercise and Gabriella Garcia of Churchville taking first place on balance beam and second all around.

The Bright Raven Level 9 team earned second place with Megan Stevens of Brockport and Carly King of Churchville competing in the senior division. Stevens won floor exercise and King earned the highest score in vault.

The Bright Raven Boys team competed at the Rochester Gymnastics Classic held at Gates Chili High School the following weekend, February 16-17 where Jake Scherbyn of Gates earned first place all around (63.20) and also won floor exercise, pommel house and parallel bars. Robbie Cavuoto of Greece finished second all around (49.30) in Level 7 competition and Josh Sokolowski of Spencerport competed as a Level 8 winning both vault and parallel bars.
