Area Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts ask community support for 2013 Scouting for Food and Clothing event

On Saturday, March 16, area scouts of all ages were to leave door-hangers at homes to let residents know that on Saturday, March 23 they will be back to collect donations of food and clothing.

The Scouting for Food and Clothing drive is in its 25th year and is one of the major service projects for both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. The goal of the drive is to fully restock the local area food cupboards with non-perishable food items and to collect gently used clothing donations for the local Goodwill.

Area scouts are making it easy to help the less fortunate in your community.

Leave bagged donations on your doorstep on the morning of March 23. The Scouts will pick them up and bring donations to local collection sites where they will sort the donated food and distribute the collected items to area food cupboards. Donated clothing items will be gathered by Goodwill who will sort and resell the gently used items. Sales in the Goodwill stores help provide valuable services to people who are blind and visually impaired.

In the Spencerport community, the collection site for donations is the Ogden Presbyterian Church for collections picked up by Spencerport Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Groups of Girl Scouts will be on site to sort the donations and box them for distribution to local food cupboards. Contact 349-1782 for information about the drive or for information regarding Spencerport, Brockport, Hilton or Greece collection sites.
