Talented and active senior turns 104 on St. Patrick’s Day

Alberta Forbes loves to show off her agility during exercise sessions by lifting her leg over her head. This witty, active senior uses only a cane to get around her home at the Memory Care Residences at Cottage Grove in North Chili. She celebrated her 104 birthday on Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day.

A well-known artist in the Boston area, she has lived at Cottage Grove since January 2011. She attributes her good health to her love of tennis, golf and sailing in her younger days. One of her favorite memories is of her experience sailing around the world.

She was active and involved in the community all her life; she didn’t retire until she turned 100. Born in New Hampshire and living in Brookline, Massachusetts most of her life, she moved to Rochester in 1996 when she decided she wanted to live closer to her family. She spent most of her career working from home as a freelance greeting-card designer, but she always found time to volunteer with the Red Cross.

When Alberta was asked her secret to living to be 104, she smiled and said, “I never took any medicine.”
