Hamlin Earth Day celebration April 20

Hamlin Beach State Park will again be the site of Earth Day at the Park on Saturday, April 20, running from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. A partnership between the Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park, the Town of Hamlin, New York State Parks, the Hamlin Lions Club, and the College at Brockport Department of Environmental Sciences, Earth Day 2013 will feature informative presenters, local crafters, artisans, eco-friendly vendors and activities designed to improve the environment.

Booth displays will cover topics ranging from renewable energy, to invasive species, to pen-rearing projects in local creeks. Local automobile dealerships will display their fuel efficient vehicles and the College at Brockport Radio Station 89.1 will broadcast onsite. An organized beach clean-up from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and free tree seedling give-away from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. are also planned. Food and refreshments will be available.

The following items will be accepted for recycling: printer cartridges, cell phones, smart phones, PDAs, and portable electronics including cameras, camcorders, I-pads and tablets, GPS devices, satellite radios, E-books, USB devices, MP3 players, gaming devices and 3D glasses. The Lions Club will also be accepting donations of used eyeglasses, hearing aids and old keys for metal recycling. Concluding the event will be a guided tour of the Hamlin CCC/POW Camp which will begin about 3 p.m. at the CCC/POW Camp site at 938 Moscow Road.
