Varsity Club helps organize blood drive at Byron-Bergen HS

Working the Byron-Bergen Varsity Club Blood Drive on March 25 were Aaron Inzinca, Kristen Maggiulli, Ben Ezard, Kristen Bailey, Charlene Clay, Adam Kendrot, along with Advisors Roxanne Wood and Nick Muhlenkamp. Byron-Bergen senior students gave the gift of life again this year at the school’s annual blood drive.

Byron-Bergen Senior High faculty members Roxanne Wood, Danielle Carson, and Nick Muhlenkamp have responded again this year by helping coordinate the annual Varsity Club Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on March 25. The school has been the site for blood drives for the past seven years. For the last four years, members of the Byron-Bergen Varsity Club assisted in the day.

Varsity Club is an organization comprised of student athletes and it is co-advised by teachers Nick Muhlenkamp and Danielle Carson. These students were involved in all aspects of the blood drive from recruitment, to staffing the registration table, and canteen. Varsity Club is also involved in several different fundraising projects and many community service projects throughout the year including canned food drives and the annual “Ricky Palermo Lift-A-Thon,” which raises money for the Miami Project, a non-profit organization researching a cure for paralysis.

This year, 45 units of whole blood and two units of double red blood cells were donated.
