Strong West urgent care in Brockport to open

by Kristina Gabalski

University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) officials say they plan to open their new urgent care center at URMC Strong West in Brockport on September 3. The urgent care will be located in the former Lakeside Memorial Hospital Emergency Department, 156 West Avenue.

“There will be signage to appropriately direct the patients to the proper entry door,” says Karin Gaffney Christensen, of URMC public relations and communications.

URMC officially took ownership of the former Lakeside property the week of August 12.

The newly named URMC Strong West now consists of the former Lakeside Hospital facility; the physician office building adjacent to the hospital; the primary care practices of Vladimir Gaspar, M.D. and Didem Miraloglu, M.D. in LeRoy; and Strong Urgent Care, 42 Nichols Street, in Spencerport.

“Throughout this process, we’ve been impressed with the remarkable support of the Lakeside board, Brockport physicians and the community at large,” says URMC CEO Bradford C. Berk, M.D., Ph.D.

Gaffney Christensen says initial hours at the Brockport urgent care center will be from noon to 7 p.m., seven days a week. The phone number is 585-758-1010.

“Strong West Urgent Care will service patients of all ages who require immediate treatment of non-life threatening issues, such as sprains, broken bones, cuts, fevers, and ear infections,” Gaffney Christensen says. “Strong West Urgent Care will offer on-the-spot diagnostic services such as X-rays, EKGs, and strep tests. No appointment is necessary.”

URMC is pursuing Department of Health approval for a full-service, freestanding Emergency Department and an ambulatory surgery center at the West Avenue location for early 2014. Urgent care services will continue to be available after the new Emergency Department opens, officials say.

Lakeside continues to own and operate its Beikirch Care Center.
