New public safety building ready for fire district

The Brockport Fire District is ready to take possession of a new public safety building on Owens Road in the Town of Sweden.

The town recently finished construction of the facility – its contribution under an inter-municipal agreement which created the Brockport Fire District. The district serves the communities of Sweden, Brockport and Clarkson.

During their regular meeting December 30, Sweden Town Board members unanimously approved two resolutions regarding the Owens Road property, one of which transferred it to the Brockport Fire District.

Brockport Fire District Board of Commissioners Chairperson Jim Sauberan says completion and transfer of the public safety building is a great way for the district to start off the new year.

“I would like to thank the Town of Sweden for fulfilling their end of the bargain,” Sauberan says. “It’s a nice facility.”

He explained that the new public safety building will be used as a training facility.

“It will fill a very big need for the district,” Sauberan says. “It is a positive thing for the fire district.”

He added that, “before too long,” the facility could also house a fire engine.

Currently, the fire district is working on installation of an alarm system and hooking up utilities in preparation for moving into the facility, Sauberan said.
