A salute to Madam Mayor
Recently, the Spencerport community lost Joyce Lobene. Mayor Lobene was loved and respected by all members of the community for her dedication to the village and its residents.
Ferris-Goodridge Post 330 of the American Legion lost a friend, supporter and true Patriot. Joyce was always there for the American Legion, whether it was for a patriotic holiday or a Legion function. She was a devoted and valued member of our Auxiliary. She was an ardent supporter of all the programs sponsored by the Legion, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.
More important, was the example Mayor Lobene set for the Spencerport community, by the patriotism and love of country she displayed during the entire year. The Mayor began a program of hanging military banners from village lampposts in honor of each of Spencerport’s sons and daughters who have dedicated their lives to military service. These placards that show photographs and the names of our honored military members now hang proudly throughout the village. These banners are constant reminders of the sacrifice our men and women in uniform are making to preserve our freedom. These banners now have sprung up in many communities throughout the country.
As Mayor and citizen, Joyce was always an ardent supporter of Law Enforcement and the Fire Department. Her initiation of the Patriot’s Day ceremony at the Village Gazebo in September exemplifies this compassion for the civil servants as they go above and beyond the duties of normal citizens. Joyce Lobene set an example for all of us, by her actions as well as her words. She was a kind and faithful servant of the people.
Madam Mayor, Ferris-Goodridge Post 330 of the American Legion led by Post Commander Donald Sisson salutes you. We thank you for your service to our firefighters, police officers, our veterans, and to the men and women serving in our Armed Forces. We especially ask God to Bless You for your service to the Village of Spencerport and to the United States of America. Rest in peace.
Joseph E. Marhatta
Past Commander,
Monroe County American Legion
