DOT holds public hearing regarding 390/490/Lyell Avenue Interchange in Gates
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has scheduled a public hearing to seek input on the preferred alternative to address travel conditions in the area where interstates 490 and 390 and Lyell Avenue converge in the Town of Gates. The hearing will be held on Thursday, June 25 at the Gates Town Hall, 1605 Buffalo Road.
Prior to the start of the formal hearing, DOT will hold an informational meeting in an open house format from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex. The open house will feature informational displays about each aspect of the project and staff will be on hand to answer questions from the public. The official public hearing will convene at 7:30 p.m. in a separate Town Hall meeting room where verbal comments will be recorded and written comments will be received. Comments received by July 7 will be made part of the official project record and evaluated prior to finalizing the design alternative.
The updated Draft Design Report/Environmental Assessment is available for public review. It is a comprehensive document that presents details of the preferred design alternative along with all the required supporting engineering evaluations and environmental studies. A copy is available for viewing at the Gates Public Library, 902 Elmgrove Road, or at the DOT Regional Office, 1530 Jefferson Road, Henrietta. Portions of the report are also available on the project website at www.dot.ny.gov/390Lyell.
Although project construction would be done in multiple stages over several years, approval for the entire project needs to be in place to move forward. Construction of the project’s first phase would replace the Lyell Avenue Bridge over Route 390.
Among highlights of the project design proposed under this alternative: replacing the Lyell Avenue Bridge over Route 390, the Buffalo Road bridge over I-390, and the Route 390 bridges over Trolley Boulevard.
The location for the meeting is accessible to people with disabilities. Contact Rick Burgwardt at 585-272-4815 or via e-mail at 390Lyell@dot.ny.gov for information.
